Communication
Description
This committee has three major functions:
1. To establish a Public Relations function for our organization so that we can send a more coherent, accurate and positive message about our organization and the neighborhood that we serve to the larger Pittsburgh region and beyond. The committee will have much work to do in this regard, including figure out ways that we can have established and positive relationships with media in the area. We must also find ways to function on an ongoing basis (i.e. between meetings) to issue press releases and the like so that the large volume of positive changes in our neighborhood does not go unnoticed.
2. To improve the way information flows between and among the various committees, working groups and other elements in our organization. This would include, for example, making the “organizational chart” easier to navigate. Currently, there are many issues concerning how members working on various projects and committee communicate among each other, to the board and to the membership at large.
3. To improve the part of our mission concerning “providing a public forum” by making meetings more interesting, engaging, informative and efficient and by cultivating positive participation in the organization. We also need to hone our “virtual” public forum through a more effective web site, clearer and more consistent electronic announcements, a more effective newsletter (both in terms of format and distribution).
