Pa. Abandoned and Blighted Properties Act
Hello Everyone,
This past Monday I gave a brief presentation at the CNNC general membership meeting about the newly enacted Pa legislation entitled the “Abandoned and Blighted Property Conservatorship Act”. The act, which became law in February 09, is designed to give communities greater power to bring abandoned properties in line with community codes and standards.
The act would allow courts to appoint conservators with the power to rehabilitate and restore qualifying blighted properties 96those that have been abandoned, are in violation of community codes, and have not been on the market for a specified time period, among other requirements. The CNNC is considering ways to take advantage of this powerful legislation to better the central north side.
Many of the blighted properties in our neighborhoods can be rehabilitated and provide viable and affordable housing. We have a great deal of work ahead of us but the end result will be worth it. As we move forward we will be seeking potential investors, contractors and purchasers of the rehabilitated properties. I have attached a link to the legislation and have other articles that I can forward to those interested in this issue.
There will be more to come. When Julie gets back from holiday we will make all
information available on the CNNC website. Thanks for your time.
